A group of the newest Brethren to join lodges in the Province of Renfrewshire East were given a warm welcome when they attended the annual New Members Seminar on Wednesday, 31st May.
Many were accompanied by their proposers and seconders at the event held in the premises of Lodge St Andrew No.524 in East Kilbride.
The Seminar was opened by RWPGM Bro. Neil Fraser who welcomed all present, introduced the evening’s speakers and thanked Lodge St Andrew for the use of their premises.
PSPGM, Bro. Dr. Iain McPhee then described the way the Craft in Scotland is structured and governed. He also spoke of the sporting activities and charity work carried out in the Province and touched on the on-going education programme and Intender training scheme.
The theme of Masonic education was picked up by the next speaker, IPPGM Bro. John S. Miller who commended the New Masons’ Forum – which meets regularly to allow the exchange of thoughts and ideas – to the new Brethren.
He also encouraged the new Brethren to make use of the PG library facility with 600 books on Freemasonry available for lending and a further 5000 books available on-line.
During the evening “break-out” sessions allowed group discussion. Following one of these Bro. Bruce Cameron who recently joined Lodge Douglas No. 1557 was invited to address the meeting.
He described his experience since joining as “fantastic” and spoke of the great welcome he had received.
The evening concluded with PPGM and current Grand Sword Bearer, Bro. David A. Reid, spoke of his personal journey in Freemasonry and the work carried out by Grand Lodge.
PGM, Bro. Neil Fraser later described the feed-back from the Seminar as “invaluable” and thanked all who had attended.
