Thursday Club visits Lodge Paisley St James No.1116

When Lodge Paisley St James No.1116 hosted the latest meeting of the Thursday Club on 31st March it attracted a large turn-out of more than eighty Brethren and welcomed a new member lodge to the Club

RWM Bro. James Thomson welcomed a Deputation including 12 Reigning Masters headed by Bro. Gavin Weir, IPM of Lodge Craigends No.1042 deputising for RWM Bro. George McNelly who was unable to attend because of ill health.

A large Deputation from PGLRE headed by RWPGM Bro. John S.Miller was then welcomed into the lodge.

A special welcome was given during the evening to Bro. Alex McAleer, RWM of Lodge Sir George Cathcart No. 617 whose lodge has recently changed its meeting day to a Thursday – thus making it eligible to join the Club.

The Thursday Club had previously been composed of four lodges in the Province – Lodge Craigends No.1042, Lodge Paisley St James No.1116, Lodge Thistle & Crown No.1167, and Lodge Newton Mearns No.1706 – who all meet on Thursdays.

Several years ago it was decided that whenever there was a fifth Thursday in any month and none of the lodges had meetings of their own that a special meeting involving all the Thursday lodges would be convened.

The scheme – involving one lodge hosting the meeting, another conferring a degree and the others are present as witness lodges and operated on a rotating basis – has been a great success.

In this case, a well-worked FC Degree conferred by the Degree Team of Lodge Craigends No.1042 was followed by an excellent Harmony enjoyed by all present.
