PGLRE Tri Annual Meeting at Lodge St Andrew No.524

The Tri Annual Meeting of the Provincial ‘Grand Lodge of Renfrewshire East took place in the premises of Lodge St Andrew No.524 in East Kilbride on Monday, 30th April.

RWPGM, Bro Neil Fraser welcomed the large number of brethren in attendance and thanked the RWM and brethren of Lodge St Andrew for hosting the event.

A sombre ceremony to mark the passing to Grand Lodge Above of three highly respected brethren of the Province then took place.

A moving eulogy was given by PPGM, Bro Frank Johnstone, in respect of Bro. Andrew L. Tannahill who served as PGM of the Province between 1977 and 1982 and who passed away earlier this year.

Recalling his long and distinguished Masonic career, Bro. Frank spoke of Bro. Andrew’s sense of humour which he never lost even after celebrating his 100th birthday in 2015.

Eulogies were also given in respect of Bro. John Lamont, PM of Lodge St John Busby No.458 and Bro. Jim McGhee, PM of Lodge Pollokshaws Royal Arch No. 153.

PG Piper, Bro. Michael Dailly, played the “Flowers of the Forest” and PGSW, Bro. Neil Terras, played “The Last Post”  on bugle before the PGM, Bro. Neil Fraser, accompanied by IPPGM, Bro. John S. Miller, and PPGMs, Bro. David A. Reid and Bro. Frank Johnstone, squared the carpet in respect of the three brethren.

Following the completion of usual PGL business, SPGMs Bro Gavin Burt and Bro. Chris Kerr installed Bro. Jeff Bailey as PG Marshall.

PPGM, Bro. David A. Reid, informed the meeting of the joint fund-raising venture this summer between Poppy Scotland and the Masonic motor-cycle group, the Widow’s Sons, who plan to visit every Province in Scotland and take part in local wreath-laying ceremonies.

The visit to Renfrewshire East will take place on 26th August when wreaths representing lodges in the Province will be laid at the Cenotaph in Paisley.

Other forthcoming events brought to the attention of the meeting included ceremonies celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Lodge Georgetown No. 1170 on Wednesday, 2nd May, and Saturday, 19th May; the annual Marcus Humphrey House Fete on Saturday, 9th June, and the visit of the new Grand Master Mason of Victoria, Australia, Bro. Keith Murray to his Mother Lodge, Paisley St. James No 1116 on Saturday, 16th June.

Brethren were also reminded of the Education Dinner on Thursday, 24th May, at Lodge Inchinnan No.1405 and the New Members’ Seminar to be held at 7.30pm in Lodge Union & Crown No. 307 on Wednesday, 30th May.
