The Tri-Annual Communication of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Renfrewshire East took place on Monday, 25th April in the premises of Lodge St John Busby No.458.
After RWPGM Bro. John S. Miller had opened the meeting and welcomed the assembled Brethren eulogies were delivered on behalf of Bros. Duncan McSporran PM 617, Gordon Gillespie PM 617, Robert Feelie PM 1667 and Alex Crawford PM 1706, after which Brethren observed a minute silence.
Following business included unanimous approval to support the nomination of DPGM Bro. Neil Fraser as PGM Elect. Bro. Fraser thanked the Brethren for their support.
Bro. Angus Ferguson PM of Lodge St Convals No. 1359 was then installed as PG Steward with the obligation given by PGM Bro. John S. Miller.
One highlight of the evening was the presentation of a Diamond Certificate to PPGSW Bro. John Watt by the PGM.
Handing over the certificate, the PGM recalled that Bro. Watt had twice been RWM of Lodge Rutherglen Royal Arch No. 116 in 1977 and 2007, had been PGSW in 2010 and had served the Craft well in the 60 years he had been a member.
Before presenting Intender Level 2 certificates to four Brethren, the PGM spoke of the growing interest in the Province’s education programme and said that the Grand Master Mason had requested details of the Intender scheme be sent to all Districts abroad.
The four newly qualified Brethren are: Bros. John Lang PM 592, Gavin Gilmour PM 426, Alick Currie PM 1359 and Gavin Burt PM 153.
In his report on Marcus Humphrey House, IPPGM, Bro. David A. Reid outlined the special events planned this year, the 25th Anniversary, with a special Degree at Lodge Prince of Wales No.426 on Saturday, 11th June which will be conducted by the PGMs of eleven local Provinces. The annual BBQ will be held the next day.
Before closing the meeting, the PGM Bro. John S. Miller drew the attention of the Brethren to a number of forthcoming events including the PGL Divine Service at Stow Brae Kirk, Paisley, on Sunday 8th May, the “walk through” EA Degree to be held in Lodge McLaren No1688 East Kilbride on Wednesday 11th May, and the New Members’ Seminar in Lodge Union and Crown No. 307 on the morning of Saturday, 21st May.
