PGLRE Annual Meeting and Installation 2018

The Annual Meeting and Installation of Office Bearers of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Renfrewshire East took place on Saturday, 27th January.

The meeting was held in the premises of Lodge Union & Crown No.307 in Barrhead which was filled to capacity by more than140 Brethren from within and outwith the Province.

After opening Provincial Grand Lodge, RWPGM, Bro Neil Fraser, welcomed a large Deputation from sister Provincial Grand Lodges headed by the RWPGM of Renfrewshire West, Bro. James Livingstone.

Other Provincial Grand Lodges represented included Dumfriesshire, Kilwinning, Stirlingshire, Galloway, Lanarkshire Middle Ward, Ayrshire, Linlithgowshire and Glasgow.

Obituaries were given on behalf of PPGSW Bro. John Clugston, Lodge Pollokshaws Royal Arch No.153; PPGSW Bro. Robert Logan, Lodge Gleniffer No.1219 and Bro. Ian Adams, PM Lodge Paisley St Mirrins’ No.1219.

Business matters having been dealt with speedily and efficiently PGM Bro Neil Fraser then handed over to SPGMs Bro. Gavin Burt and Bro. Chris Kerr who ably installed the Office Bearers and Stewards.

The PGM then congratulated the IPPGSW Bro. Pat Kelly – who becomes one of three of current PPGSWs serving from Lodge Rutherglen Royal Arch No.116 – and presented him with his Apron.

PGM Bro Neil Fraser then revealed that along with SPGMs Bro. Gavin Burt and Bro. Chris Kerr he was to visit Australia in April – at their own expense he hastened to add – to attend the Installation of Bro. Keith Murray as Grand Master Mason of Victoria.  Bro. Murray’s Mother Lodge is Paisley St James No.1116.

The PGM then sprang a surprise by presenting Bro. Chris Kerr with a bottle of malt whisky from the Grand Master of Victoria Designate for being the 900th brother to sign up for the upcoming Installation

Before retiring, the RWPGM of Renfrewshire West, Bro. James Livingstone, who said this was his last official function in office congratulated PGM Neil Fraser on his first year in office and also SPGMs Bro. Gavin Burt and Bro. Chris Kerr for the excellent job they had made of installing the Office Bearers.

The PGL Piper prepares to set about the haggis under the watchful eye of the DoC

The Annual Dinner that followed got off to a fine start when PGL Piper Bro. Michael Dailly piped in AND addressed the haggis with passion to the delight of the Brethren

The Brethren set to enjoy an excellent meal with entertainment to look forward to.

PGL Director of Ceremonies, Bro. Brian Shields said Grace and the assembled Brethren enjoyed a fine three course meal of soup, haggis neeps’n’tatties followed by braised steak and veg and then a cheese board.

PG Treasurer Bro. Clark Leiper recites some Burns classic poems to the delight of his audience.

Among the highlights of the entertainment that followed was PGL Treasurer Bro. Clark Leiper’s rendition of Burns classics including Epistle to a Young Friend and Holy Willie’s Prayer which the assembled Brethren thoroughly enjoyed.

The evening concluded with a raffle with many prizes.
