Memorable Burns Night at 617

The 23rd annual Burns Supper hosted by Lodge Sir George Cathcart No.617 was held on Thursday, 28 January.

It was held in the Masonic Hall, Busby, where the lodge will meet in future and attracted a good turn out of Brethren and visitors.

They were treated to a splendid evening of music and excellent food – not forgetting the fine speeches and recitations served up by the evening’s speakers.

Bro. Bill Wallace delivers a “serious” point!

The haggis was duly piped in and suitably addressed by Bro, Gordon Gillespie PM. Among the highlights that followed were The Immortal Memory proposed by Bro. Bill Wallace PM, and a superb version of Tam O’Shanter by Bro. Sam Milwain PM.

Musical interludes were supplied by singer Dougie Johnston and pipers, Alan Caskie and Spencer Veitch.

The evening concluded by a memorable toast to The Lassies proposed by Bro. Ian McNicol with a suitable reply from RWM Bro. Alex McAleer, who thanked all who had attended or taken part in what he described as a “cracking good night”.
