Lodges fund raising helps Malawi appeal

Enthusiastic fund raising by members of two lodges in the Province resulted in £6700 being put towards the building of new classrooms in the African country of Malawi.

It was started by PMs, Bro. Stevie Allan and Bro. David Watson of Lodge Union & Crown No.307 who raised £5000 through bag-packing and a series of other fund raising events.

This included a race night held at Lodge Union and Crown which was heavily supported by the Brethren of Lodge Nitshill No.1478 and which raised  £1700 including a cheque donation from Lodge Nitshill.

Bro. David Watson is handed a cheque by Bro. Ian Todd, now RWM of Lodge Nitshill

The money raised by the two lodges went – along with over £100,000 raised through Renfrewshire Council – to the charity Classrooms for Malawi.

The result was the construction of three classrooms, a teachers’ block and a Mary’s Meals kitchen at Williams Village near the town of Blantyre in Malawi with the work being completed this autumn.

Bro. Stevie Allan said:  “We were delighted to play a part in raising funds for such a good cause that provides facilities that will be used to benefit future generations of children in Malawi.”

Bro. David Watson said:  “We would like to thank everyone who contributed with a special thanks to the Brethren of Lodge Nitshill for their generous support of out race night.”
