Lodge Thistle & Crown No.1167 Hosts Thursday Club

Lodge Thistle & Crown No. 1167 – who are celebrating their Centenary year – hosted a meeting of the Province’s Thursday Club on 31st May.

The highly successful Club started several years ago and meets when there is a fifth Thursday in the month and the five lodges who meet on that day of the week have a free night allowing their Brethren to get together.

The lodges concerned are Lodge Sir George Cathcart No.617, Lodge Craigends No.1042, Lodge Paisley St James No.1116, Lodge Thistle & Crown No. 1167 and Lodge Newton Mearns No.1706.

They are regularly joined at these events by Brethren from other lodges within and outwith the Province of Renfrewshire East. and the meeting on Thursday 31st May was no exception when 66 Brethren attended the Neilston lodge.

On this occasion, the RWM of Thistle & Crown Bro. Ian Brenchley opened his lodge and welcomed a Deputation from the Province of Renfrewshire East headed by SPGM Bro. Chris Kerr and which included SPGM Bro.Gavin Burt

He then welcomed a Deputation of Reigning Masters from the four other Thursday lodges headed by Bro.Steven McLean RWM of Lodge Paisley St James whose turn it was to confer the evening’s degree.

The Deputation included Bro. Alec McAleer RWM of Lodge Sir George Cathcart, Bro. Jim Orr of Lodge Craigends, and Bro. John Howarth, RWM of Lodge Newton Mearns who along with many of their Brethren were there to witness the event.

Also present were two visiting Reigning Master, Bro. Evans Reid RWM of Lodge Randolph No.1434 and Bro. Robert Steven RWM of Lodge Govandale No.437.

An exemplary FC Degree was carried out to a very high standard by the degree team of Lodge Paisley St James.  Candidate for the evening was Bro. Drew Calderwood PM of Lodge Pollokshaws Royal Arch No.153.

SPGM Bro. Chris Kerr commented on the continuing success of the Thursday Club and said what a pleasure it was to see the lodge room so full.

After the meeting a fine Harmony meal was provided by the Brethren of Lodge Thistle & Crown.
