Lodge Paisley St James Welcomes Thursday Club

 The Brethren of Lodge Paisley St James No.1116 proved genial hosts when the Thursday Club met in its premises on 29th November.

RWM Bro. Steve McLean welcomed a total of 57 Brethren from across the Province of Renfrewshire East into the Maxwellton Road temple.

On this occasion, the degree team from Lodge Sir George Cathcart N. 617 headed by RWM Bro. Alex McAleer conferred an exemplary FC Degree.

Brethren from the other lodges in the Province that meet on Thursdays – Lodge Thistle and Crown No. 1167, Lodge Craigends No.1042 and Lodge Newton Mearns No. 1706 were present in numbers to witness the degree.

Deputations from these lodges were headed by their respective RWMs, Bro. Ian Brenchley, Bro. James Orr and Bro. John Howarth. Also present was RWM Bro. Andy Thomson of Lodge Renfrew County Kilwinning No.370.

RWMs who attended the Thursday Club meeting along with PSPGM Bro. Willie Fleming and PPGSW Bro. George Bell.

PPSGM, Bro. William Fleming, who headed a Deputation from PGLRE, spoke of his delight at seeing such a large turn-out of Brethren.

He welcomed the continued success of the Thursday Club which meets whenever there is a fifth Thursday in the month thus allowing lodges that meet on the day of the week to get together.

The meeting also allowed Brethren an early opportunity to congratulate PPGSW, Bro. George Bell on the announcement that day that he was to receive Grand Honours.


The new Masonic Carpet in the Maxwellton Road Temple proved a focus of attention.

There was also the opportunity to admire the splendid new Masonic carpet recently laid in the Maxwellton Road temple.

Following the degree ceremony, stand-in candidate, Bro. James Martin PM of Lodge Paisley St James was thanked for the part he had played.

On behalf of the assembled Brethren, RWM Bro John Howarth of Lodge Newton Mearns, congratulated the degree team from Lodge Sir George Cathcart.

The evening ended with a most enjoyable Harmony.
