The Installation of Brother Neil Fraser as the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master of Renfrewshire East took place in a glittering ceremony in Paisley Town Hall on Saturday, 18 March.
Around 400 brethren from every lodge in the Province, from all over Scotland, England and overseas were present to see the new PGM and his team of Commissioned Office-Bearers installed by the Most Worshipful Grand Master Mason, Brother Charles Iain Robert Wolrige Gordon of Esslemont.
The Provincial Grand Lodge was opened by IPPGM, Bro. John S. Miller who welcomed a large deputation of visitors representing the following Provincial Grand and District Grand Lodges:
Aberdeen West, Argyll and the Isles, Ayrshire, Dumfriesshire, Dunbartonshire, Fife and Kinross, Galloway, Glasgow, Kilwinning, Lanarkshire Middle Ward, Lanarkshire Upper Ward, Renfrewshire West, Stirlingshire, DGL of New Zealand South and DGL of the Middle East, represented by their RW District Grand Master, Bro. Kang Tee Youg.
In recognition of Bro. Fraser’s upbringing and Masonic links in the North of Scotland – his Mother Lodge being Lodge Seaforth No. 854 – the deputation was headed by the RWPGM of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Ross and Cromarty, Bro. Robin Cattanach, while among the guests of honour was the new PGM’s father, Bro. Ian Fraser, Past Provincial Grand Master of the same Province..
The Grand Master Mason and Grand Office-Bearers were then received in due form by IPPGM Bro. John S. Miller.
Following his acceptance of the Emblem of Authority and assuming the Chair, the Grand Master Mason warmly congratulated Bro. John S. Miller and his Commission for all their efforts over the past five years especially in the ground-breaking work of Masonic education.
The ceremony of Installation of Bro. Neil Fraser as RWPGM of Renfrewshire East then took place followed by the Installation of his Commissioned Office-Bearers as follows:
Depute Provincial Grand Master, Bro. Robert M. McPhee, Substitute Provincial Grand Masters, Bro. J. Gavin Burt, Bro. Alick Currie, and Bro. Christopher D. Kerr. Provincial Grand Secretary, Bro. Ronald E. Fraser and Provincial Grand Chaplains, Bro. Reverend Robert Craig and Bro. Reverend Iain Ramsden.
Following the ceremony, the Grand Master Mason offered his congratulations and urged them to find ways of ensuring that those who became Freemasons continued to believe were joining the finest Fraternity in the world.
RWPGM, Bro. Neil Fraser said he had found the ceremony a “humbling” experience and thanked the Grand Master Mason for the dignified manner in which it had been carried out.
He also thanked the Grand Lodge Office-Bearers and all the visitors from near and far for their attendance and asked all brethren in the Province for their support.
Following the ceremony a well-attended and enjoyable Installation Dinner took place in Paisley Town Hall which included a haggis course with the “beastie” piped in by Provincial Grand Piper, Bro. Michael Dailly and ably addressed by PSPGM, Bro. William Fleming.
