Grand Master Mason returns to his roots at Lodge St Barchan

It was a very special evening for the Grand Master Mason, Bro. Ramsay McGhee, when he returned to his Mother Lodge, St. Barchan No.156 to receive his 50-year Diploma on Tuesday, 19 February.

More than 140 Brethren – including a contingent from the north of Scotland where the GMM Affiliated to Lodge Seaforth No.854 in Fortrose when he moved to the Highlands in the 1970s – crowded into the Lodge where RWM Bro. Eddie Findlay welcomed a large Deputation from PGLRE headed by SPGM Bro, Gavin Burt, followed by a Grand Lodge Deputation headed by the Most Worshipful Grand Master Mason.

The first duty of the evening was the Affiliation of Bro. Jonathan Hill to Lodge St Barchan. Bro. Hill, a PM of both Lodge Robertson’s No 134 in Cromarty and Lodge Alan Wilson No. 851 in Fortrose and who has long Masonic connections with the GMM recently moved to Renfrewshire.

RWM Bro. Eddie Findlay then presented the Grand Master Mason with his 50-year Diploma along with a special jewel and a new Lodge tie and recounted his progress in Freemasonry from his Initiation into Lodge St Barchan in 1969 adding that sadly the funeral of the RWM at that time, Bro. Bobby Newton, had taken place just a fortnight ago.

The meeting continued with the ceremony of Raising the newest Master Mason of Lodge St Barchan, Bro. Stephen Hogg, by the Lodge’s own Degree team – a ceremony the Grand Master Mason later described as “of the very highest standard and a joy to watch.”

The evening concluded by a most enjoyable Harmony.
