There was fulsome praise for out-going PGM Bro. John S. Miller when he chaired the Province’s final Annual Meeting and Installation under his Commission.
The meeting was held in the premises of Lodge Prince of Wales No 426 in Renfrew on Saturday, 28 January, just five days before the new Commission headed by PGM Designate Bro. Neil Fraser takes over.
The meeting having been opened, a Deputation of Sister Lodges headed by the PGM of Dumfriesshire, Bro. Robert Hughes, was welcomed into the meeting. Other Provinces represented were Ayrshire, Galloway, Kilwinning, Lanarkshire Middle Ward, Renfrewshire West and Stirlingshire.
A Grand Lodge Deputation was then received. This was headed by RWPDGM Bro. Archibald M. McGown who lost no time in paying tribute to PGM John S. Miller’s term of office and praising the tremendous work over the past five years by the PGM and his Commission.
The assembled Brethren then paid solemn tribute to six Brethren called to Higher Service during the past year.
After normal Annual Meeting business has been completed, the Installation of Office Bearers and Stewards for the forthcoming year was carried out by PGM Designate, Bro. Neil Fraser assisted by DPGM Designate, Bro. Robert McPhee.
Before the meeting concluded there were surprises in store for four Brethren with the title of Honorary Grand Treasurer being bestowed on PGL Treasurer, Bro. Clark Leiper in recognition of his 19 years of service in that capacity to the Province.
Provincial Grand Honours were also bestowed on Bro. Gordon Fleming (Honorary Assistant Provincial Grand Secretary), Bro. Brian Shields (Honorary Assistant Provincial Grand Treasurer) in recognition of their services to PGLRE.
Bro. Stewart Cruikshank, a member of the PGL of Ayrshire, was also given the title of Honorary Provincial Grand Architect of Renfrewshire East in recognition of his services in photography.
Bro. George Bell was then presented with his Past Provincial Grand Senior Warden’s Apron by PGM Bro. John S. Miller who commented on the “unrivalled” attendance record of Bro. Bell in all offices over the years.
Invited to comment, the PGM of Dumfriesshire, Bro. Robert Hughes, spoke of the “legacy” of the on-going Intender Programme started in Renfrewshire East under PGM Bro. John S. Miller and now being enthusiastically taken up by other Provinces.
In his concluding remarks, the PGM thanked all member of his Commission and all office bearers were had served over the past five years for their commitment and hard work.
Following the Annual Meeting, Brethren enjoyed a Burns night Harmony with a traditional meal followed by recitations and contributions by SPGM Bro. Willie Fleming, PG Treasure Bro. Clark Leiper and Bro. Martin Cassidy MM 1042.
