Emotional Homecoming for Bro. Keith Murray

When Bro. Keith Murray – then a young MM who had reached the office of Junior Deacon – attended his last meeting at Lodge Paisley St James No 1116 before setting off to a new life in Australia in 1994 he was presented with a bible.

Earlier this year – wearing his 1116 lodge apron – he was presented for installation as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Victoria, Australia, and took his obligation on that same bible.

On Saturday, 16th May, he returned to his Mother Lodge to attend a special meeting during which Bro. Gordon McLean, son of the current RWM of Lodge Paisley St James, Bro. Steven McLean, was passed as a FC Freemason.

The afternoon began with the RWM welcoming a deputation of Reigning Masters from within and outwith the Province followed by a deputation of the Australian visitors headed by their Grand Master, Bro. Keith Murray, and finally a deputation from PGLRE headed by RWPGM, Bro. Neil Fraser.

Following the ceremony, Bro. Keith Murray was presented by a silver quaich and was also made an Honorary Provincial Grand Senior Warden of Renfrewshire East.

Presenting him with the certificate, PGM Bro. Neil Fraser, who along with SPGMs Bro. Gavin Burt and Bro. Chris Kerr, had attended the Installation ceremony in Melbourne in April at their own expense, spoke of the affection that Bro. Keith Murray obviously had for his roots in Freemasonry and of the wonderful welcome he and his colleagues had been given in Australia.

Bro. Keith Murray told the packed lodge room what an emotional day it had been for him and told the story of the bible he had received.  He also spoke of the pride he felt in wearing his 1116 Apron at his recent Installation and thanked everyone for the warm welcome he and his deputation had received in Scotland.
