A Flying Start for New Commission

On Monday, 24 April, the Provincial Grand Lodge of Renfrewshire East held its first Tri Annual Communication since the new Commission was Installed.

Appropriately, this took place in Lodge St Barchan No.156– the adopted Lodge of the new RWPGM Bro. Neil Fraser.

Following the opening ceremony, eulogies were given in respect of three Brethren who had passed to Higher Service. They were Bro. Ian Bell PM Lodge St Andrew No.524; Bro. Hamish Henderson, PPGSW, PM Lodge Eaglesham No.1265 and PM Lodge McLaren No.1688 and Bro. Andrew Gordon, PM Lodge St Andrew No.524.

After thanking Lodge St Barchan for hosting the event and inviting RWM Bro. Leigh Gibney to the East, the PGM then thanked all the Brethren of the Province for their support at last month’s “memorable” Installation ceremony in Paisley Town Hall.

He also had warm words of appreciation, too, for all who had helped in organising the event and singled out PG Secretary, Bro. Ronnie Fraser in this regard.

A letter from the Grand Master Mason was read out thanking the Province for their hospitality on the day and for the cheque of £3,700 for the Grand Lodge Benevolent Fund.

Following the usual business, Bro. Gavin Gilmour PM Lodge Prince of Wales No.426 was Installed as PG President of Stewards. Bro. Ian Todd, PM Lodge Nitshill No.1478 was then Installed as PG Steward.

PGM Bro. Neil Fraser then presented IPPGM Bro. John S. Miller with a cheque on behalf of the Province’s Daughter Lodges in appreciation of all his work over the past five years. The IPPGM expressed his thanks and said it had been a “pleasure and a privilege” to serve the Province.

The IPPGM then gave a short report on the on-going Education Programme in the Province including Intender Training, the Young Masons’ Forum and the Study Group.

PPGM Bro. David A. Reid said that a fund-raising Garden Fete would be held at Marcus Humphrey House on 24 June with the aim of attracting 300 visitors and he urged Lodges in the Province to support the event.

The attention of the Brethren was also drawn to the Provincial Curry Night to be held in the premises of Lodge St John Busby No. 458 on 6 May at 7.30pm. Tickets £12, the PGL Divine Service at Stow Brae Kirk, Paisley, on 14 May at 3pm and the New Members Seminar at Lodge St Andrew No.524 on 31 May at 7.30pm.

Before the meeting closed, IPPGM Bro. John S. Miller congratulated PGM Bro. Neil Fraser on the way he had conducted the evening’s business and spoke of the positive impact the new Commission had made within the Province since taking office.
